TORII

Torii gateways are usually found at the entrance to a Japanese Garden showing that the area beyond is to be respected and revered

Here, and unusually, it is found on a small jetty out into the pond

The symbolism here is that the pond represents the great oceans

The visitor therefore does enter the garden via the Torii

Torii were originally found in gardens associated with Temples
