8  THE CRANES 

To the Japanese the Crane is a symbol of longevity. According to legend this bird lives for 1000 years, and so its influence in the garden is important. Daily viewing is supposed to ensure long life and happiness. One of the cranes here is feeding, whilst the other is watching for predators, creating once again the balance within the garden. The three rocks again are representative of heaven earth and man
